1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN!
Giving Young Children the Tools to Become Successful Readers
NH 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a new Library program that encourages all Barrington families to read 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten.
Studies have shown that families who start reading aloud to their children from infancy help to strengthen their language skills and build their vocabulary – two important tools for beginning to learn to read when they enter kindergarten.

How Does 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Work?
Each time you read a book, log it (if you repeat books, they count, log it!).  If your child hears a story with someone else, log it.

How Can I Read 1000 Books?
It’s easy! One book a day for three years = 1095. Three books a day for one year = 1095. Ten books a week for two years = 1040.

Sign up your child online HERE. You can log books online or in paper format to bring into the library to have staff check the online account and/or log the amount online for you. Paper logs are available at the library.

When you and your child finish reading the first 100 books, come back to the library to receive a special canvas book bag for your child while supplies last (sponsored by the Friends of the Barrington Public library)!  Come in after each 100-book goal to let your child pick from the prize box.
When they reach 1000 books they get to pick a FREE Book and get their picture taken with our 1000 Before Kindergarten Board!

Wee Read! Story Time
Children 1-3 years old, and a parent/caregiver, will enjoy this lap-sit session with books, music, rhymes, simple concepts and various activities with Ms Wendy. Library story times help develop social, emotional and language skills.

We’ve changed the name of our Lap-sit story time, but this popular program will continue our strong emphasis on great stories and learning new skills.

The fall session runs September 17th to November 16th.
Registration is required* and begins on September 1st.

See our online calendar and search for the day you want to register for (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday) and click the "Register Now" button.

*Registration requires a library card. If you do not have a library card yet, but would like to register for this event, please come by the library with your photo ID and proof of residency (if not on ID). Signing up for a library card takes just a couple minutes.

Drop-In Spring Preschool Story Time
Session runs September 20 through November 15!
The Children’s Librarian will share stories and a related craft with children 4-6 years old. Story Times help develop early literacy skills, using our imagination, recognition of words and context, etc. that help prepare children for school.

LEGO Club - K-4 Drop-In Event
Every Tuesday from 4 - 5 PM

Patrons going into Kindergarten through 4th grade are invited to build LEGO creations. This is a free play where kids are encouraged to expand their imaginations! Creations will be displayed in the library (if space allows).
